Books containing advertisements and packaging from time periods from the late 1800's to the 1940's. Looking for book recommendations for my reference library.
Any books that you love.
Thank you.

A nice series of British ones are the Robert Opie scrapbooks. His Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising is well worth a visit if you are ever in London.

For late 1800's US there are reprints of the old Sears Roebuck catalogs.
Walker Evans photographs are great for Depression-era vernacular advertising and signage. There are plenty of books of those.

I'll add some more once I've had a chance to dig through my shelves and boxes.

I'm very excited that this has finally been published. It was due last summer but kept getting delayed. Rian Hughes' Custom Lettering of the 40s & 50s.

His earlier "Custom Lettering of the 60s & 70s" is probably my favourite book, partly because there are a lot of things I recognise from my childhood in there.

This book is amazing: L'affiche dans le monde by Alain Weill.

It has a lot of advertising design, mainly posters, from product,
to art to politics from the type-focused beginning in th pre 19th
century time, and the development of graphic design throughout
the late 19th and 20th century, up until the 1990s a bit as well.
It gives not only a more detailed account over many designs from
up until mid 20th century, but as well a selected and sound over-
view over advertising in Russia, China, Cuba, Japan, and other
places of the world, as well as an overview over the second half of
the 20th century.

It is not produced anymore, was published in the late 1990s and
one can still find plenty of used copies on or ebay or
with a simple google search.
