Can anyone help me ID this typewriter-looking font from the 1956 French film Et Dieu… Créa La Femme (And God created woman) starring Brigitte Bardot?

The a, and obviously that deliciously quirky g are the most difficult characters to match. Some possibilities that can give a similar feel if not a proper resemblance:

Great find! Someone should digitize this and call it "Bardot."
One close suggestion is Nick Shinn's Bodoni Egyptian.

It's also got really short ascenders - which is not normal. I agree the g is awesome! also check out the d. Fun!

Simon, maybe you should try to get some hi-res screen captures of this (rent the DVD!) and work on digitizing this. A great project.
