Nice! Do I detect a nod to the layout of late, lamented Blueprint magazine?
Nice! (Great name, too.)
And maybe usable alongside Kursivschrift.
No slight intended James -- it was the combination of an upright script and oodles o' rules that brought some of the pages of Blueprint to mind.
I'm sure Insouciant is up to your usual high standards, and I hope it finds an enthusiastic audience.
From the layout it looks like you are getting in touch with your feminine side. :-) Sorry it was too late to delete that!!!!!
Cool. Very nice James. I like it very much!
When I went to the site I discovered Moraine. I had not seen it before. Short term memory problems :-) Very nice, but so is this one, so just keep doing what you do.
Seems it did not catch their fancy James. Oh well, back to the Sans and Armeaningless!
> if Insouciant "grew up here" it would be more interesting
Not just interesting, but endearing.
It's normal - don't knock it.
> But that will never happen.
Sure. For one thing you need a lot less help than
most people who use this forum to such great effect.
But would your early work (like Orbon) have benefited
if something like Typophile were available? Definitely.
You could have had both, as Nina did (FontFont, not ITC),
and ended up with something better. Evidence? What did your
first published font look like James?* And it's not difficult to
argue that FF might not have taken on Ernestine without the
good direction it acquired thanks to that Typophile critique.
This is no slight against Nina, since I think even your own
current work could benefit.
> My first fonts looked like shit. And yours?
Why do you never read anything anybody else points out?
Go look at that thread. And while you're at it look at this
http://typophile.com/node/53395 and see how much
Typophile helped. Just because you rarely help people
here doesn't mean they get no help here.
You might also ask Christian Robertson how this
And what did your second font look like? Probably 50%
of the same stuff. Well, Ernestine was a second font, and it
looks awesome in part because of Typophile. This place
isn't just for asking technical questions, getting an answer
and then pretending you didn't.
BTW, I don't get the relevance of my not saying much to
you in person. If you'd said something interesting I would
have reacted I guess. If you look at this thread for example
you'll notice that I found what Michael said interesting.
BTBTW Micheal, what does "Armeaningless" mean?
"This place isn't just for asking technical questions"
Your agenda Hrant is counterproductive to those who choose to pursue beauty and function which you call SAD!
P.s. You are not that stupid Hrant. Figure it out.
Micheal, what does "Armeaningless" mean?
I just don’t understand why confrontations like this one occur all the time. There is a thing called civility that should deter people from lashing out against others. The fact that a fellow Typophile is passionate enough to post/react should earn some respect.
If you don’t like what someone posts, skip his or hers message and stay on topic. Or get a life, in general.
And don't make racist remarks.
So sorry James. Sidetracked... now why was it that your font never ended up on the scoreboard :-)
Looking good, James!
Holy smokes... it dawned on me that you were calling me a racist, I have been known to call my wife a "woman." She's o.k. with it now though :-)
As to the you ARE MEANINGLESS to me contraction, stretch it out as far as you can Hrant! Go for all the sympathy you need! How about URmeaningless?
Again, sorry James!
> it dawned on me
I guess that explains why you missed my direct question twice.
I'm racist. I posit that the Wasa is nobler than the Marathon.
So apologize for calling me a racist!
(Please stop substantially editing your comments. For one
thing in this case the earlier one was in fact more accurate.)
I didn't call you a racist. Which isn't saying that I'm sure
you're not. However I do believe now that your comment
wasn't racist - and for that I apologize. Next time however
don't let a long silence make people think the worst.
You should try actually reading what people write (and link
to) and address the content instead of simply exploding with
dogma. You're so emotional that you don't seem to be taking
the time to respect the content. Have you give up learning?
Don't use this place as your punching bag.
The fact that you accuse me of dogma and leave yourself out makes it shallow and insincere.
I did not "let a long silence" go out of any worry... you were the one who started throwing epithets. I intended nothing... you drew your own conclusions.
I do not need a punching bag because I am resolute in what I do and you are the one who seems to have a HUGE problem with it.
Shall I recount the endless parade of tripe and denigrations you have thrown at my field?
p.s. I did not "substantially" edit my post. I just asked for an apology in a more demanding way!
You ignored "Micheal, what does 'Armeaningless' mean?" twice.
Was it sloth, arrogance or blinding rage? Do you expect people
to be OK with any of that? That's just as unreasonable as thinking
(see below) that a font that suddenly pops up will get just as warm
a reception as one that dozens of people have been critiquing -out
of goodwill- for three years.
Actually thinking has nothing to do with it, you're just lashing
out at anything to do with me, just because we disagree about
the role of chirography* in type design. You need to prevent
your emotions from stunting your growth - intellectual growth
that would lead to better fonts (the reason I'm here myself).
* Are you ready to apologize for that
misunderstanding? I didn't think so.
I'd really like to stop wasting time in this way, so I'm
preparing myself to ignore your following comment,
something I don't like to do to anybody. My consolation
is that I've been using my time elsewhere on Typophile to
better effect. Think about your own overall contribution
to this place.
Prepare yourself Hrant... You are meaningless!
I just reread your post and realized you are trying to resurrect my contraction a second time.
You are truly a victim :-) Keep playing it up and place the blame on others!
No emotions here, other than sympathy for you.
It takes two to argue.
This is the most professional forum (As in it is actually a meeting place for professionals) I know, and still everybody is a human and online communication can go wrong, even here.
Great typeface! I have to say am a fan of James’ work.
I’m a great fan of James’ work too, but sadly the website is so cumbersome to navigate I often find myself giving up.
