Hi everybody! I am happy to announce the release of Cavatina: an experimental font for musical notation. It is the result of two years of work in design and programming.

I'm looking to add a simple alternate feature to a font. The font is purely uppercase but in the lowercase glyphs the font has one set of of alternates (also uppercase design).

We're not after any cutting edge attempts at randomisation, just a simple toggle effect, cycling through so every other time you type a letter the alternate displays. So typing "aaaa" will pull out "aAaA" from the glyphs.

I have looked through a lot of posts and articles and have found much useful information, but can't quite pin down the exact code. I understand it's quite simple and I'm almost there I think. I have created two classes - class1 (uppercase) and class2 (lowercase).

Now I believe I just need a simple piece of code to place here in the opentype panel:

Chef Script is an experimental font designed by Carlos Fabian Camargo G. Its fantasy design contains 1463 glyphs to compose words, phrases and short messages on small and large sizes. The idea was born in a sketchbook that was perfected again by hand and achieving "non-neutral drawings" on tracing paper. With bezier digitization the empty and full parts of letters appeared with soft and eloquent curves as calligraphic result produces optimal readability.

I'm creating a sans-serif font but as alternates the I and J have little serifs, and I want to carry over the alternates to the small caps. I'm getting a little stuck on the scripting. (Massive newbie on the scripting btw).

So when Small Caps are on with alternates the small cap serif I will be displayed instead of tthe small cap I.

Is this possible?

Basically, the situation is that I am in need of a programmer with the skill necessary to program fonts by integrating the calt OpenType feature into them. I am more than willing to be taught these skills, as I will be creating multiple fonts utilizing this feature and possibly some other advanced ones. You will never know which of the alternating letters is going to occur next. Basically, at the heart of it all is MeM: four different weights and letter shapes melded together into one powerful font and shuffled with the sleek usability of OpenType.

Working in FontLab, Windows.

We took multiple Type1 fonts and created a single family, generating as OTF for use in InDesign (mostly). There were 2 Greek Type1 fonts that were included into this single family. The width of the space in the Greek and Latin Type1 fonts were different, the Greek being larger to make flowing Greek more readable. We encoded the space from the Greek fonts to the PUA and used a simple calt feature to say that when the language is Greek and a Greek character is set, use the alternate space. Like so:

where @caltgrek contains all the Greek characters after which we want to make a substitution.

I have a stylistic alternates in my opentype values, but for some reason the opentype panel in Photoshop/Illustrator will not toggle them. The interesting thing is, the glyph window in Illustrator reads them fine, but toggling the alternates in the opentype window does nothing. In order to select an alternate, it has to be done via the glyph window.

Has anyone ever experienced this, any ideas what is causing this?

So I am starting a book project for which I am using a very complete and well designed typeface, the files are .otf. I thought .otf meant OpenType and that's it, I just discovered the different OpenType flavored types, which I don't quite understand yet, anyway, not the point...

So I checked and my typeface is an OpenType (Postscript Flavored).

Now... I am using the Book weight, which contains all the basic characters, but not the ligatures. For the ligatures, there is the Book Alt version, which contains all the nice ligatures that I would like to use in my text treatment...

From what I understand, OpenType would contain everything in one font file, these flavored things do not, because of the 256 glyphs limit, right?

Hi everyone. I'm making my first font and it has a ton of ligatures. I have six versions of some ligatures. Now I'm beginning the proces of getting them to work with code, though I've never written code I'm learning it as I go, with this font.

My question is about the difference between stylistic alternates en stylistic sets. What is the difference exactly??

Alternate substitution replaces a glyph with one of the glyphs in a predefined
list of alternatives. The application that uses the font is expected to
decide which glyph to choose. A good example of this lookup is to provide
several versions of some glyph, like the ampersand. Another application is

Mynaruse Royale is an expansion of Mynaruse Titling. It features script capitals and widely tracked and smaller titling capitals. Mynaruse Royale has plenty of character and, with its powerful and sharp serifs that draw the eye. Mynaruse Royale is useful in settings that call for titling with an extra touch of elegance, such as a storefront, wedding program or formal invitation.
Mynaruse Royale contains a number of OpenType alternates, including alternate forms for the capitals that are large, drop cap like capitals instead of the calligraphic script capitals found in the default forms. Additionally there are non widely tracked lowercase forms that work well with the included alternate characters and ligatures.

Updated description: this is a contemporary serif family I'm working on since January 2010. It was initially just for personal use, but the project grow up to embrace complete Latin, Cyrillic and Greek scripts, besides phonetic alphabets, arrows and dingbats.

It's a text font and the family is planned to have several weights in roman and italic versions. I believe it will be released in early 2013.

Goals:

1. it must be suitable for books and magazines, with more contrast than contemporary typefaces like Meta Serif, Greta Text or Stuart.

2. it must be clean and legible, with high x-height, generous counterspaces and reduced ornamental elements.

Anybody know a way of programming a font so that it remembers you've typed a letter, and the next time you type that letter an alternate glyph is used? This would be useful in distressed fonts. Ligature substitution is ok for double letters but if I type a word like 'dada' say, and I want to make sure the distressed look isn't repeated, it doesn't help.

I have a feeling it should be simple enough to do this - somehow get typing a letter to flick a switch and then if the same letter is typed while that switch is on, substitute an alternate glyph then reset the switch.

Any ideas?
