Suggestions for good monospace font?

I'm not a designer myself, but I am a fan of nice fonts. It's been quite interesting to see how much interesting is being paid to typefaces these days.

By profession, I'm a programmer, so I need to use monospace fonts for nearly everything. While I've heard people gushing on about Helvetica, I've never seen much discussion of fonts that could replace Lucida and Courier.

Can any of you point me to some excellent, readable, beautiful typefaces that follow the monospace standard?

Hermit: a font for programmers, by a programmer

Forums:

Typophiles here might be interested in this praiseworthy endeavour by a programmer who’s designing his own monospace font for coding. For now, one weight and one style only, but he seems to have quite a few optical sizes in mind (probably without him even realizing what that means).

The designer/developer (Pablo Caro) explicitely asks for criticism, so he can take constructive feedback into account while developing further. His sample text settings were posted on Hacker News (a popular forum for coders and programmers), where they’re being discussed. By hackers. For typophiles it’s anyhow interesting to read how programmers rationalize about type design, without the burden (?) of tradition and jargon: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6354396

Would anyone know the name of this font?

Hello! I know this an incredibly stupid font to ask you to name, but it would be nice to know. I've only seen it on Windows computers, and have seen it many times before. Does anyone know this font's name, if so... is it also downloadable?

In this specific case, this was just a screenshot I took from a youtube video. Do not mind what is says, it won't make any sense. Heh Heh.

Fontforge can't get TTF names via Scripting

Forums:

I'm trying to convert a collection of Windows Postscript files to OTF on OSX. For that, I decided to go with Fontforge because I can batch-process them with scripts in the terminal. I know little bash-scripting and no Python, but have been able to modify a script on the Fontforge site to do this: http://fontforge.sourceforge.net/scripting-tutorial.html

Need little help with ending swash.

Hi! My very first post - logged in because of this question.
I want to make the following rule in OT font:

(in human language) If the word ends with "r", it should be substituted with "r.alt"

So far I've been trying to understand FL manual, search this forum and google for tutorials, but with no luck at all.
