Open Source

Hello everybody,

which free fonts do you consider the best to publish books? I will self publish books under CC, that's why they must be free. There are some amazing ones that are non-free, especially from Adobe, but I couldn't fine anyone that was clean, light and elegant enough to provide a pleasant reading. So maybe you know some. ;)

By the way this website contains a description of "Stone Type Foundry", the same font in the attached image. I was astonished how beautiful and elegant it is, and I think it must be perfect to publish a book. Unfortunately it's paid. But what do you think of it? Just curious.

Thanks!

Hello everybody!

I'm looking for the good sites which have many and many open source fonts which are under GPL for allowing me to modify and project the fonts for Ubuntu themes.

EULA, CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 and CC BY-ND 3.0 s-u-c-k!

I need the open source and free fonts for projecting the Gnome and GTK themes for Ubuntu.

Do you know some good sites of many and many open source and GPL-like fonts?

Thank you!

Kevin

Hello, I'm trying to identify the font used for the JRuby project.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for typefaces that were designed / created by a collaboration between a group of people.

The most prominent project that comes to my mind is Font Aid, but are there any projects like this where a functional typeface was created?

Whether it's an open source project or perhaps even just a collaboration between a small group of typographers, both old and new, I'm really interested to find out about them - if they exist.

Thanks amigos.

Jordan

By my count there are now three Hebrew fonts that are licensed with open source licenses:

  • The SIL (Summer Institute of Linguistics) Ezra SIL font
  • David Perry's Cardo (using SIL's Open Font License version 1.1)
  • and the Culmus Project's Ancient Semitic Scripts family of fonts including Keter YG (using GPL v2 with the font exception clause).

Hi, name's Lars Johansson. ( *ducks for obligatory Swede-jokes*)

I found this outstanding site trough some searching on the web, for resources and information on fonts and typography.

I'm a hobbyist web and graphical designer, as well as an amateur comic-book letterer and colourist.

I'm also an editor for a comic-book fanzine here in Sweden, and one of my duties is the design of logos and promotional fliers. As such, I have been reading up on what is essentially considered to be the VERY BEST of the best, of the best, ( and on and on ;) ) fonts that a modern graphical designer needs to have in his arsenal.
