I have not seen the info here yet, so I just wanted to let you know that a new French foundry launched last week (I am not related to the foundry - I just rather like the concept and the fonts): the Bureau des Affaires Typographiques. You can find all info in English here:
IMVHO I think Acier (a revival of Cassandre's type by Jean-Baptiste Levée) will be of interest to many of you since I have seen it (or a closely related character) used in a number of vintage London Underground font.
The Font Company was based in Phoenix, AZ and owned by Dan Barthel. The company scanned and digitized fronts from filmstrips as well as conversions of Alphatype faces in the late 1980s.
Font Company faces were distributed by the Precision Type Company until it closed its doors in the mid-2000s.
The Font Company closed in the 1990s.
I recently became aware of the Ri-Xing Letter Casting Firm (日星鑄字行), what must be one of the last remaining traditional Chinese typefoundries in the world.
You can read a bit about them in English at this blog, from where the above photos were lifted.
There is an effort underway to preserve and digitize many of the designs. The foundry is located in Taipei, and welcomes visitors and volunteers.
Their blog (in Chinese) is here: http://rixingtypography.blogspot.com/
Does anyone know of a book in existence which documents type foundries' pinmarks? I thought I saw one once, but might very well be remembering a book on printer's marks or union bugs.
BriarPress.org used to have a section devoted to pinmarks which was great, but it's been down since their redesign (http://www.briarpress.org/15798).
I'm also aware of the pinmark Flickr pool, but that still isn't very heavily populated.
Suomi Type Foundry is a company dedicated to creating high quality typefaces. The company was founded by Tomi Haaparanta, who has been designing typefaces since 1990. Tomi Haaparanta’s fonts are already distributed by Linotype, Monotype, ITC, T-26 and Psy/Ops, and in January 2004 he decided to set up his own font foundry.
I would like to buy the Rialto font (dfType) from Giovanni de Faccio and Lui Karner. Does anybody know where i can buy it? I can't find any sites in the web selling this font...
