problem

Fonts saved as OTF or TTF in Fontlab Studio5 work in all my MAC applications, but do not work on the PC !!

Forums:

When saving a family font s OTF or TTF in Fontlab Studio5 they work fine in all my MAC applications, but the same family does not fully show on the PC.
Some of the fonts are showing on the PC even though they've been uploaded, and it shows some of the other members of the family.

Is there any setting that I should change on Fontlab so they are compatible across both platforms?

Problem generating TTF with Fontographer 5.2

Forums:

Hello everyone. I'm having problems generating a TTF file with Fontographer 5.2 (win8). The system's file preview shows the gliphs distorted and the uploaded font to dafont.com seems deformed. This doesn't happen when I generate a OTF. You can see what I mean in the next images.

Does anyone know whats going on?

Thanks in advance!

Kerning problem in word 2010 (mac)

Forums:

Hello,

I'm new on the forum so I introduce myself

i'm a swiss student, and I tried for my studies In ancient history to build a font.
I used fontforge and finally fontlab. Everything works perfectly except the kerning.

MS word 2010 doesen't take count of the kerning of my new font...
Kerning works perfectly on Oppen office, but I have to make it work on MS word. Is it possible ?

Somebody knows what is the problem ? Can somebody help me ?

Thanks for help :)

Different line gap between styles of the same font

Forums:

Hi,

I have a problem with the line gap of my font when using it on windows 7 with Wordpad (no problem on open office and on my mac).

I made a font family with 4 styles (regular, italic, bold and bold italic) and when I use it with Wordpad, I ended up with unconsistent linegap. Italic, bold & bold italic have the same line gap but regular has a larger one.

FontLab custom encoding problem

Forums:

hello folks,

i'm building a font with a lot of alternative glyphs. i wrote a custom encoding file, with a list of alternative glyphs, each with a name suffix, e.g. Ccedilla.gt or Eogonek.ro.

however, when i select this encoding in the font window, in few cases, it shows the default glyphs in places where the alternatives should be. even when i actually create the alternative glyph, it still remains out of place. have anyone experienced this? does anyone know any solution?

thanks!

Please help: leading problem in Fontographer 5 {most likely a simple solution}

Forums:

I am creating a monospaced monoheight display font were the kerning distance and leading height are identical. The problem I am having, is that when I test the font in InDesign I do not have a simple default way of getting the font leading to be identical to the kerning. This is critical as some of the ligatures are vertically oriented and connect glyphs from two or more lines.

The Font Information is as follows:

UPM size: 320

Ascender: 320 on most glyphs and 420 on the vertically oriented ligatures

Descender: 0 on most glyphs and -100 on the vertically oriented ligatures

Line gap: 20 (to match the 20 for kerning)

Safe zone top: 420

Safe zone bottom: -100

Caps height: 320

xheight: 320

Thank you in advance for your help

Problem with Appearance of Slight Diagonals in Contours

Forums:

I am in the early stages of developing a chromatic face that, by design, employs a lot of slight diagonals (1 to 5 degrees off the horizontal or vertical). The glyphs are made to look as if they were formed by folding strips of paper (I know, I know it's been done before). In addition to the pair of companion chromatic fonts within the family (each representing a different side of the strip of paper), I want to make a monotone version that somehow achieves the 2-sided effect without the use of multiple colors.

The solution I've arrived at to simulate that 2-sided effect is to, in the areas representing the back of the strip of paper, block or mask out strokes that run parallel with the strip. The problem I've encountered in testing the viability of this solution is that the edges of the strokes (set at the aforementioned slight diagonal angles), as well as the edges of some of the solid sections, appear quite "jaggy" when I test the PS OpenType font in Illustrator or InDesign.

Microsoft Word doesn't like my new OpenType font

Forums:

I have a new OpenType font I'm working on and when I try to load it into Word X, it shows it in the menu, BUT when you click on it it switches to the font next to it in the list instead and refuses to make it work.

The font works perfectly in Adobe programs and in TextEdit (I'm using Mac OS X).

I have heard many people have problems with Microsoft programs loading various fonts, but I would like to sell this font sometime soon and don't want to have to tell anyone that it doesn't work in some Microsoft programs.

So far I have only heard people saying a font of theirs doesn't show up in the menu because they have the wrong printer drivers installed, but this is something different than that because it does show up in the menu - it just doesn't work!

Dollar sign ($) and - sign appearing out of nowhere glitch problem

I just got through creating a font and when I applied it to a random letter I typed in TextEdit (mac) 2 random $ signs appear on the page. They can't be deleted. They are not glyphs. They are just stuck there and in fact it's possible to type over them and you can see them underneath the letters on top!

I sometimes don't see them and sometimes there are one or two, depending on what you type. Now I'm also seeing random - symbols that appear and change when I adjust the type size!

Anyone have any idea what the hell this is or how it can be fixed? God have mercy on the font designer that faces this. This is terrible.

I'd like to sell this font eventually and I can't have this glitch in it!

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

Font Kerning-pair problem in Adobe CS software

Forums:

I have quite 'weird' problem with my font. For some reason one kerning pair (as far as i know) is not working in Adobe CS3 software (indesign, photoshop etc.). Still its perfectly fine in numerous other softwares (MS Word, NeoOffice, Linotype fontexplorer etc.). The problem appears both in "class kerning" and "flat kerning mode".

The problematic kerning-pair is "Va" so it's too visible in display sizes to ignore.

I've attached detailed picture comparing the pair "Va" and "VA" in multiple softwares.

I hope someone knows something similar and can help me on this.

Thanks

Height problem

Forums:

Hello there, again ;)

I have a problem with my font - when I export it, the problem is next: when I write with it the height of one line is very very long, just to be sure you understand here are some pics of it [of course the problem is same in Illustrator] ;)

Why is that happening?

I work with FontLab 5.0.4 :)

Font offsets when typing in a text field

Forums:

Hello font lovers :)

I've got an annoying problem (but then again, aren't all problems annoying?). Well here goes:

I've pursued an old idea of splitting a font in half — one font (half) containing the first set of fragments of each glyph, the second font (half) containing the rest of the fragments. I'm calling the font Unify 1 and Unify 2.

The idea is then to write something with a readable font, then duplicate the text you've just written and add Unify 1 to the first copy and Unify 2 to the second copy. To be able to read the whole thing, you need to put the two copies on top of each other and voila! It's complete.

That was the concept. Now to the problem, which I've explained in this short video:

Mac OS X (10.4) Font Book character preview related er... maybe export problems?

Forums:

Hello Typophiles,

I've got a little problem.

I've submitted a font to a retailer and everything is OK - except the following message that I just received:

"When I install the font in Mac OS X (I used 10.4), the character preview in Font Book is completely blank."

As I work on PC I not really know what would be the problem. Export setting related? Other?

Could someone please help me or suggest something to try?

Maybe it is a simple problem, but I just know what would cause this.

Many thanks in advance.

New Font Doesn't Show Up in InDesign Menu

Forums:

Hi, I'm new to these forums and am having some trouble getting a font I'm working on off the ground. I'm using FontLab Studio and currently everything exports fine, except when I'm in Adobe InDesign the small font "preview" does not show up next to the name like all the other fonts do. It is in the right order, and the typeface itself works fine, but for some reason that little preview with the name of the font does not show up on the font menu. Oddly enough the font preview shows up in MS Word, but not InDesign. Any idea why this might be?
