The Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) is pleased to announce that Portland, Oregon, has been selected as host city for TypeCon2013. Thanks to the top notch crew of local typophiles who have been instrumental in helping us bring TypeCon to The City of Roses.

TypeCon2013 will take place August 21st – 25th at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower. A discounted room rate will once again be available to TypeCon attendees. Details regarding conference registration and hotel reservations will be posted as they become available.

Portland’s home-grown monthly typophile get-togethers continue!

Just express interest to get on the email list for future gatherings. :)

My son, a recent transplant to Portland OR, alerted his type-geek dad to the C.C. Stern Type Foundry, a volunteer-run working museum, offering public programs to preserve the craft of type casting, and to educate and inspire a new generation of printers and students of printing history.

Here are some photos he took at their open house on March 26, 2011:

Tuesday Feb 1st is the first Tuesday of the month, so it's time for a social evening with your fellow Portland typophiles! Not all discussions have to be about fonts and typography, but it would be good if everyone was at least willing to have such discussions. :)

This is our third Portland Type Tuesday, I think. We may soon be too many for this location, but they have a great Imperial Stout on tap, so we're back again at:

Migration Brewing
2828 NE Glisan St.
Portland OR 97232

7 pm Tuesday.

I'll be the fellow with the green hat and red mad scientist glasses. Hope we see you there!
