Rosetta Type Foundry

Eskorte is a hardworking Latin-Arabic type family with an uncomplicated, regular appearance that conveys a crisp, businesslike tone. Its compact range of styles has been designed for easy use by non-designers in offices of legal and academic institutions, and corporate environments. Eskorte supports Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, and over ninety languages using the Latin script.

The various styles were designed together, resulting in a smooth, coherent style across the family. The italics take on livelier, more fluid forms that echo the design of the Arabic, allowing them to sit perfectly together, while the extrabold adds punch to official announcements and notices.

The Arabic was designed in consultation with Titus Nemeth.

Sutturah – dangerous curves!

Designed by Octavio Pardo, Sutturah is a display font intended for poster and editorial design. It was born as an exploration of new text patterns. The font combines very detailed and constructed shapes with script flavour. The design has varied influences, from gothic fraktur to the display super black high contrasted wood types.

On 24 May, Russia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and other countries that follow Eastern Ortodox tradition, celebrate Saints Cyril and Methodius day. This day also commemorates the invention of the Glagolitic and Cyrillicalphabets.

In the ninth century, Glagolitic was invented by two brothers known as the “Apostles of the Slavs” to translate Christian texts into the language of the Great Moravia region. Later on, in the 9–10th century, one of their disciples who moved to Bulgaria invented the Cyrillic alphabet as a derivative of the Glagolitic and Greek alphabets.

You may have noticed this already, but I thought I better post it here anyway. Following the redesign of the mother-page of the BBC News, the BBC Arabic launched their redesigned website. It is probably one of the first, and certainly the biggest site yet to use webfonts – Arabic webfonts that is. It uses a custom version of Nassim by Titus Nemeth. The typeface was painstakingly optimized for screen and for web. Hinted by Thomas Grace and mastered into webfonts by Tim Ahrens.

You can read more on Titus' blog.

We will be releasing Nassim through Rosetta Type Foundry this year, see http://rosettatype.com/Nassim .
