Help with Swashes, please!

Forums:

Please help! Are there any rules or formatting structures for using swashes to fill in negative space for a scrip or brush layout? Like are there any tips or do-and-don'ts of creation? I want to use some to add to my layout but i don't know where to begin or which ones to use if the font does not contain alternates or glyphs included in the original. Thanks in advance!

Help needed to find suitable fonts

Hi all,

I'm a graphic design student who's very interested in typography. Currently I'm working on a project where I need to select 3 sans-serif fonts. First one is more general like, that is either very over used or has very basic shapes (my choices were Helvetica, Arial Times New Roman) Second one, needs to depict precise and clear information (science publications) (my choices were Akkurat, Din, Replica) And third one is mostly used for philosophical, art statements (like for example Laurence Wiener works) (Trade Gothic, Franklin Gothic, Knockout) I'm open for any other suggestions or corrections. And thank you very much in advance.

Help to create a typography

Hello everyone, i'am new to this site, i need some help on FontLab Studio, i and a friend just finished designing a typo on illustrator, and we are looking to export it as otf and ttf, i copied/pasted all my vectors, and when i try to generate the font it displays an open contours warning, our typography is based on a complex grid with lots of crossing vectors, there is always a circle in front of or in the letter.
When it exports, a weird F symbol appears on nearly every letter.

Thank you in advance,

Arthur

Font for company website... (Proxima Nova + Baskerville)

Gentlemen,

I am requesting your advice...

I have been coding our company website and I'm having a hard time choosing fonts. Initially we had Google Fonts but they weren't doing it for me. I have very little experience and don't see typography in the same way you guys do.

I purchased Proxima Nova (Thin, Regular, Bold) and Baskerville (Medium Bold). My intention was to make Baskerville the heading font and Proxima Nova the body but it just doesn't look right to me.

Brief background about company: Established 1987 in New York City. I am a wholesale supplier of Men's designer tailored clothing and Women's contemporary. Our logo which was professionally designed is in Baskerville.

Question: Please help me with making a decision on the following:

HELP beauty spa logo needs typeface suggestions-

Hi I am starting up an Eyelash Extension spa- the logo picture is a very rough draft. My demographic is early 20s to late 40s with average being late 20s-early 30s. Am trying to convey an upscale, chic, modern (but not cold), stylish, with elegant/feminine touch. Suggestions of typefaces is VERY appreciated! Have been going crazy trying to find something that looks ok. Was thinking modern/script but am open to other typefaces/script. Also what would you recommend then for tagline? (Logo might be edited with box around it and/or without tagline). Again your guys feedback is very very much appreciated!

Assignment feedback!

Hello everybody!

I have just started my graphic design course and the assignments require us to get feedback from other people. My current assignment is to design a wine label and get feedback.

If anyone can help and give me some constructive criticism on my designs, it will be greatly appreciated! I'm still getting used to photoshop, illustrator etc etc. So please take it easy on me and please keep in mind that these are just quick drafts to give you an understanding of how I want my designs to look.

THANK YOU! (:

Design Assignment Feedback HELP!

Forums:

Hi everyone!

This is my first post! I've currently just started a course specialising in digital design and have an assessment that I need to get feedback on from other designers. I'm still very new to this but here goes nothing!

The main objective for the assignment was to create a shirt and poster for the Salvation Army that can be ordered online; it should showcase their efforts to help and show compassion towards others. I designed my shirt to aim at a broader audience, whereas the poster is intended to show the effort the salvation army has made since 1865.

Please! Any kind of negative/positive feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much!
Ben.

Critique: Monogram Logo

Forums:

Hello,

I am new to the forums and am extremely exited to dig into them and join the conversations, for my first post I was wanting to get some feedback. I am currently working on some basic branding for myself and was wanting to know what you thought of the mark I made for myself. Could I get general impressions and what you think is wrong with it? Thanks so much!

Multiweight script families - Help with PhD

Hello everyone,
I am currently writing a dissertation on type technology, focused on developing a workflow for creating multiweight script/cursive families utilizing Multiple Master technology and some Metafont/Metapost techniques. To be more precise my objective is help the designer in creating calligraphy and brush scripts – of the kind which weight cannot be just changed without complete redrawing (you can’t just move stems around).

HELP! Magazine Redesign: Modern Typeface Combination Needed

Hello!

I'm a newbie in a need of some typo advice from experts as I have become overwhelmed by browsing the web ...

I'm a student and currently redesigning a medical magazine run by a non-profit student organization.

I'm looking for a sans serif for headings (it will also appear on posters) and a serif for long texts (2 columns).
Keywords: economical, legible, modern

Correct width and Em size

Hi,

I've been designing my first typeface for the last few weeks and I run into a question:

How do you know the proper width for each glyph?

I'm worrying that, for instance, the width of my "A" is too long compared to other letters. Is there a mathematical way or something like that, other than just the naked eye to figure out the correct proportions?

I'm mainly having this issue with the Caps.

Thanks in advance!
