As Types Grow Older – Re-Release of Grimoire and Sadness

Forums:

My very first typefaces Sadness and Grimoire have just been published in new and revised versions at Myfonts. After the tragic end of the established Fountain Type Foundry I had to ask myself the following question: Is there still any justification for the existence of my 20 year old fonts?

Can ageing fonts and logos look better than the original?

I always encounter various fonts and logos that have become outdated and haven't been upgraded and sometimes they even look better! With the amount of designs and fonts out there, companies sometimes forget about their old ones. This post shows some examples of logos being able to capture that vintage look without really trying! What do you think are some other fonts and logos that manage to do that?

Release CAMINITO

Forums:

Hi all, I expect find you fine in this new year. This is my first entrance of 2015, now releasing my latest type project CAMINITO, a layered font family inspired in Argentinean art craft «Fileteado Porteño». I started this project 2 years ago, taking inspiration from numerous ads, posters and signs installed along the city of Buenos Aires. Now the font family is available at MyFonts.com

Turn of the twentieth century fonts

So, I have a ton of vintage type specimen books and wood type references, but I'm looking for some particular knowledge/advice. I'm working on the brand for a restaurant that is described as "John D. Rockefeller and Theodore Roosevelt enjoying a whiskey together."
Obviously, there is a ton of reference to Victorian and Art Nouveau which would come right before and Bauhaus / De stijl which would come right after, but I'm trying to pinpoint if there is a typographic "style" that would have appeared in New York City in the year 1900. I'm trying to avoid "western" (wood type) and european (overly ornamental)...

any thoughts and resources/examples would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Can anyone convert this into a font?

Forums:

Hello all,

I found this image in an old french book of lettres. I was wondering if it could be desaturated and made into a font somehow. I do not have the resources or the know-how to do this. If you're able to do this and don't mind, I'd be very appreciative if you could send me over the .otf or .ttf file.

Thanks

Jim West Schrift

Not the best image to show my own version of this weird but beautiful script style, inspired on 1883 James West "Hoyt Script", here I just try to do a very wide range of alternate gliph designs, and hope to have some digital examples to show all of you here or anywhere.

Any kind of criticism are very well welcomed.

Vintage Poster Font ID

Hello, I found this vintage poster online, and I really like the font at the bottom of the poster. I tried a couple different methods to try and see if there was a font for it, but didn't find anything. I figured maybe someone has seen the font before or maybe something similar?

The link to the actual poster is below. I am also attaching a rough tracing of the font as a jpeg in case that helps.

Thanks in advance!

Release: Alianza

Forums:

Alianza is a complex typographic system wich includes three different but complementary styles so far: Slab, italic and script, with nine weights each one; plus three sets of ornamental fonts: labels, negative labels and ornaments.

The soul of the family is a slab feeling applied judiciously to the italic and script styles to make it coherent with the whole system.

Each style has three sets of figures: Proportional lining, tabular lining and old style.

You can mix the three styles in a single piece to obtain more expressive results without worring about the uniformity and complementing the design by using the ornamental sets.

Seeking feedback on selecting personal logo

I'm working on my personal branding and would like some input on the logo that I've been developing. I've gone through about 50 variations of this, but am attaching the top 5 designs that were narrowed down based on a first round of critique from a colleague. The concept is based on a strong personal affinity for modern vintage design through the vintage seal/stamp shape and original craftsmanship. This is just the basic flat logo that I'll eventually add some slight additional styling and perhaps get turned into a physical rubber stamp for promotional print items.

I am seeking preferences for integrating the script typeface monogram which gives it the more modern edge versus the more slab typeface.

Thank you!

Dark Angel: A New Release from Alphabet Soup Type Founders

Forums:

Alphabet Soup Type Founders and Michael Doret are proud to announce the Release of Dark Angel, a “blackletter/hybrid” font. This font had its genesis in a logo sketch for the Anaheim Angels baseball team—thus its name.
Type purists may be appalled by the lack of adherence to traditional forms, but the font should be seen as only “in the spirit of” blackletter, and attempting something that hasn’t been seen or done before—something that feels traditional, yet at the same time fresh and perhaps unexpected.
