Commented on Tuesday, 3 July 2012 - 1:53pm

Typedrawers.com is growing. It was created to provide an alternative to Typophile. Typeboard sources server hosting from a vendor known for reliability rather than using home baked solutions. And problem Typophile members have been blocked from...

If you want people with good opinions to help you, you will need to proactively build a relationship.

That is very true, but a good forum is still a great place to get one’s feet wet. I never would have known type conferences...

This is becoming a bit of a meme amongst the scientific set.

More like among hack science journalists.

Anyway, the real problem here is that nobody has noticed that readers do better with engaging content than bland content...

It’s best not to make these assumptions about orthography unless it’s a letter that only turns up in a single language like ŧ or ď. You might think you have the rules worked out from looking at dictionary words, but when it comes to the names of...

Every time I see the Monotype crowd I bug them to plug Steve and his work more. He deserves a lot more recognition than this, but it’s a good start.

Set up your own online store and don’t sign these contracts.

The sales I make through my store are only about half as many compared to the sales I make through online middlemen. So, if I dumped my third-party distributors, maybe it would be a wash.

How valuable is the customer data you...

If they want to own my font I'm saying no. I will only license it.

You should really put this question directly to people who actually sell their designs to foundries. AFAIK very few of them actually participate on Typophile.

Dump all of your OpenType code. Then add features and test compile them one at a time until you find the broken one.

I'm interested to know whether, given the reduced royalty rate from Monotype, the extra exposure (if there is any) is worth the effort.

I intentionally never signed with Monotype because I did not want to be associated with that...

The $5 folks have much less need for broad character sets and don't perceive quality as well as your $100 folks.

I disagree. Broad character sets were developed to add support for central and eastern Europe, where income levels are...

I also didn't want to spend the time I could be working on my typeface making rewards.

My sentiments exactly. I want to make fonts, not shirts.

Monotype’s retail sites are only the largest marketplaces because of all the third parties selling there. Attempting to drop royalty rates would likely result in type designers signing deals with Phil’s Fonts, Fontspring, Font Bros, etc.. Some type...

If a fashion designer chased a herd of mutilated and bleeding models onto a runway with an electric whip it would certainly be a fresh and creative approach to the design of a runway show. But I doubt anyone would want to watch.
