I just wonder how many people who aren't involved in print/design/typography would appreciate this - or even notice the difference from the cheap stuff...

Hello Daniel

Looks good to me - I would suggest putting some letter spacing throughout - the letterpress process benefits from letter spacing for business cards where obvious impression (debossing) is desired.

The key points to think about after you've fine-tuned your artwork are:-

1. Card thickness/colour/texture - Colorplan 540gsm is arguably the best option with a choice of 50 shades...

Joshua Langman: "I think even for letterpressed cards, 300 gsm is plenty thick, unless you're punching the type really hard on both sides. But thicker could work. You might even print on binder's board if you want something really thick."

This thread is right up my street, some nice cards on show.

I also have quite a collection of cards, but I only collect letterpress / foil cards - the cheap mass produced share-a-sheet...

I was handed a Colorplan 910gsm b/c last week by a designer - this is now the thickest in my collection - duplex dark grey and cool grey - blind embossed (debossed), orange and grey foils with orange edge painting.

Yes I was referring to all cmyk cards printed by the online print sellers - they print by the "share-a-sheet" process - normally 20 different cards at a time - which is why they're so cheap.

I'm afraid no litho or digital...

Maybe gold is a bit old fashioned but when used sparingly I think it looks really classy.

This card is G F Smith Colorplan duplex Natural/Dark Grey 700gsm - with black, white and satin gold foils.

Artwork supplied by design agency.

Here's a card I printed recently - artwork supplied by client.

The card is G F Smith Colorplan Dark Grey 700gsm, with white and red foils + blind embossed (debossed) logo - I call this style "de-embossed".
